Last week, Southridge’s JV 2 girl’s soccer team volunteered at the Oregon Food Bank to package green and yellow beans in the refrigerated packing room. Looking like oompa loompas dressed in hair nets, gloves and aprons, we worked 2 ½ hours packaging 1778 pounds of beans, providing meals to 1482 people. Though it was hard work, we had a lot of fun racing to see who could package the most beans. Our trip to the food bank helped others, but it also brought us closer as a team. It was a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community and demonstrated the value and power of service work. This experience has prompted me to encourage my friends and family to participate in similar projects.
