WANT Poetry Corner: Shining Sol

By Asia Gates

Wilson High School

I wish upon a silencing star so I can touch the sky

and see the world afar
to escape while I’m still spry.

So I can touch the sky seeking a place
to escape while I’m still spry for I don’t want to chase.

Seeking a place
where I stand is the sun for I don’t want to chase the light that will outrun.

Where I stand is the sun
a star that will capture
the light that will outrun any callous, cagey captors.

A star that will capture
with the most ravishing rays any callous, cagey captors only to be set ablaze.

With the most ravishing rays and see the world afar
only to be set ablaze,
I wish upon a silencing star.
